QB Mustain will land at Southern California
Former Arkansas quarterback Mitch Mustain has transferred to Southern California, according to a published report.
Mustain had been strongly considering USC after asking out of his scholarship in January. He had visited USC and attended the spring game on April 7.
CBS SportsLine.com has not been able to confirm the report by the Los Angeles Times.
Mustain went 8-0 as a starter during his freshman season in 2006 but was unhappy after offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn took a job at Tulsa. That was a sign that to Mustain, it was thought, that his high school offense wouldn't be featured. Malzahn was Mustain's coach at Springdale (Ark.) High School. While there, Mustain became the No. 1 prep quarterback prospect in the country, and arguably was the best recruit ever landed in Arkansas football history.
Mustain will have to sit out the 2007 season at USC before playing again in 2008. Waiting for him on the depth chart then, likely will be current backup Mark Sanchez and incoming freshman Aaron Corp.
