Aaron Corp commits to USC

Orange Lutheran quarterback Aaron Corp has given a verbal to the Trojans as he becomes the 4th commit for USC in the Class of 2007. Click below to read more:

"I committed to USC, " said Aaron Corp. "I talked to Coach Carroll and told him I was coming. He was really enthusiastic about it and really happy. I also talked with Coach Sark and he was excited too.

"I basically made the decision Sunday night. They had offered me on Friday and I just took a couple days to think about it and make sure it was the right decision for me. I just felt this is where I want to go, this is what I want to do, so I went ahead and made the commitment."

Aaron Corp had narrowed his choices down to USC, Cal and ASU in recent weeks although it looked like the Trojans were the heavy favorites as soon as they made an offer last week. The 6-4, 185 quarterback is known as one of the more athletic players at his position and he was named to the 2nd team All-State underclass team as a junior in addition to being his league MVP. As a junior he led his team to a 9-2 record as he threw for almost 1,800 yards and 15 touchdowns while running for 650 yards and eight touchdowns.

"I am a versatile quarterback that can pull the ball down and take off if I have to," said Aaron Corp. "I’m a tough player. I know the game. I’m good at making my leads and getting the ball where it needs to be. I think I’m a very mobile QB. I want to work on my overall strength and getting bigger. Also, I'd like to sharpen my release.”

Aaron Corp is also well thought of by college scouts. Randy Taylor runs a scouting service for California high school and junior college prospects and he has Aaron Corp ranked as the #2 QB in the state right now (behind Jimmy Clausen) but he thinks Aaron has the potential to move into the top spot. Here is the latest evaluation from Taylor on Aaron Corp:

"Skinny but frame to get big. Much improved throwing motion since the summer, still winds up a bit but gets the ball out better. Has an OK arm, runs very well, an athlete, good escapability, the more I watch him the more I like him, he may end up being the top QB in the state. Is going to get bigger and has a very good upside."

The verbal from Aaron Corp is the third in the past two weeks for the Trojans for players from the Orange County area including a commit from Servite's D.J. Shoemate, the potential top player for the Class of 2008. The verbals from the Orange County trio, the only three players in the County that the Trojans had offered, shows that the USC coaches will continue to look to secure the top players in the area as the foundation for the Trojan program. The OC recruiting efforts are led by Lane Kiffin, who formerly headed up national recruiting for the Trojans, and the results have been positive so far. Who will be the next local player to commit? Stay tuned.
