Ayles chooses USC
The USC football program picked up a huge commitment when Lutheran (Orange, Calif.) senior tight end Blake Ayles pledged to the Trojans. The 6-foot-4, 235-pounder chose USC over Wisconsin, Ohio State, Miami, Cal and Arizona.
Ayles, who's one of the nation's top tight ends and overall recruits in the Class of 2008, was an important cog in Lutheran's run to a state title last season. He caught 43 passes for 617 yards and three touchdowns and was selected to the Los Angeles Times All-Star team. Ayles is an excellent receiver thanks to his soft hands and solid route-running skills. He's also a very strong blocker.
With the Trojans, Ayles will join former Lancer teammates in quarterback Aaron Corp and defensive lineman Michael Reardon, who are both freshmen at USC.
Miami gets local defensive commitment
Miami Northwestern (Miami, Fla.) senior defensive lineman Marcus Forston committed to Miami on Thursday over the likes of USC, Notre Dame, Florida State, Tennessee and Florida.
The 6-foot-3, 305-pound tackle is one of the nation's top overall recruits in the Class of 2008. He's an extremely difficult matchup for any offensive lineman because of his tremendous strength combined with his quickness and athleticism.
Forston, who is compared to former Miami standout and current New England Patriots star defensive tackle Vince Wilfork, was an All-State selection last season after 92 tackles and 20 sacks to help lead Northwestern to the Class 6A state title. He's the fourth member from Northwestern's senior class that's committed to Miami, joining wide receiver Aldarius Johnson, quarterback Jacory Harris and offensive lineman Brandon Washington.
