Oregon's loss not so Rosy for Trojans
USC is off for two days, but before leaving campus Thursday night, many players watched part of No. 2-ranked Oregon's nightmare loss to Arizona.
"I don't know if it's good or bad for us or what we want," USC quarterback Mark Sanchez said.
Before the game, USC's best chance at the Rose Bowl was for Oregon to win out and advance to the Bowl Championship Series title game. But since the Ducks lost, USC needs Oregon to lose at least one more game. Because the Trojans lost to the Ducks, Oregon would win a tiebreaker.
"I hope we can go to the Rose Bowl or Fiesta Bowl," Sanchez said.
USC could potentially go to the Fiesta Bowl if it wins its final two games and Oregon wins the Pacific-10 Conference title.
Recruiting doubleheader: USC coach Pete Carroll attended a high school football doubleheader Thursday night. Carroll went to the Crenshaw-Sylmar game then headed over to the Dorsey-San Pedro game.
He will also attend games tonight and Saturday. Assistant coach Todd McNair flew to Florida to watch cornerback Patrick Johnson, who is rated the top cornerback in the country and recently decommitted from Miami. USC is considered his No. 1 school.
Spectators: Sanchez and fellow USC quarterback Aaron Corp will attend tonight's Mission Viejo-Orange Lutheran playoff game. Sanchez went to Mission Viejo while Aaron Corp attended Orange Lutheran.
Wide receiver Garrett Green and cornerback Cary Harris will watch their alma mater, Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks, face Newport Harbor.
Quarterback Michael McDonald will also be at the game. He attended Newport Harbor and his brother, Andrew, is the starting quarterback at the school.
Baker optimistic: Offensive tackle Sam Baker (hamstring) performed individual drills and said he thinks he will be ready for the Arizona State game.
Weekend off: USC is off today and Saturday and then returns Sunday.
